Gosha Galitsky：Being a bicycle enthusiast, it pains me to see how little cooperation exists between the public transport and bicycles. What seems to be the perfect alliance between long-range transport (such as trains, buses and airplanes) and short-range environment-friendly transport (bikes) is only seen in some places in Europe and in some areas of the US. All this in spite of rising awareness for environmental issues and an immense growth in popularity of the bicycling sport. Moreover, the market is full with wonderful and innovative folding bicycles; but you will rarely see them in the metro or on buses. In search of a folding bicycle which would be designed for operation with public transport, I tried to find what was missing. The important discovery was that most modern folding bicycles, although capable of folding into an amazingly small size, in their folded state still present a cumbersome, often heavy and difficult to carry package. On the other hand, even large and heavy trolleys and other wheeled baggage is transported on public transport with (relative) grace and with little effort. Bearing those discoveries in mind, I set to design the suitcase bike. It might not fold to the smallest possible size, but when it is folded, there are no sticking-out wheels, sprockets or cables that can get entangled with other passengers and make them dirty. The delicate (and greasy) components are all enclosed inside the suitcase-like body of the bicycle, forming a neat rectangular package that can be easily dollied using the small front wheel of the bicycle.
